I have a DW double bass pedal it a 4000 ser. I changed out the bearings in mine to Powell skate bearings with no ABC Rateing. Swiss for those of you who know they are fast and smooth. Now I spent an extra $99 on the bearings but I can no longer skate so I put them to good use. My pedal has been working very nice for me, I just had to do a little work on them. For the loose drum key bolts I used blue locktight. I have had no problem with them. I wonder why they stopped making them?? Anybody know??

Hi James,
That's really crappy on their part. I read your thread on the drummerworld forum and can't believe DW would even blink at sending a replacement even IF they are excluded from warranty. I found this: http://www.canopusdrums.com/en/otherproducts/item/speedstar/index.html which you've probably already seen and does require an additional purchase. I am floored to see both Guitar Center AND DW simultaneously dropping the ball. Have you tried calling support and asking for a manager or higher up? Believe it or not, I've had success with many companies when I've had either a knucklehead CS rep or a house of cards system failure on their part. Sorry I can't think of anything else to tell you except I've not heard of this level of screw-up from either of those companies before.

These work pretty well, but I keep wearing out the rocker bearings that the springs are attached to.

DW doesn't want to sell me replacement bearings, bearings aren't covered under warranty, and the dealer (Guitar Center) wants me to make a special order of at least $100 to order these little bearings that probably cost the manufacturer 69 cents each.

In 30+ years of playing I've never had a kick pedal bearing go bad. And I've never had this kind of bad support from a manufacturer or retailer.

Speed King was my hero in the 80`s, when I first started, but recently, after loooonnng time forgotten.
I was looking for a new double pedal and I found this new Speed King on the shelf.
I tried It, just for fun, and unfortunately, I did not find It as strong as It should be, as per a new version.
But It will always be an Epic, Legendary pedal...
